Light Adjustable Lens™

The implantation of the Light Adjustable Lens™ typically takes 15 to 20 minutes, similar to traditional cataract surgery or refractive lens exchange. The customization process, where the lens is adjusted with UV light, happens after the initial implantation in follow-up visits.

You may begin noticing improvements in your vision within a few days following surgery. The lens is designed to work immediately after implantation, but adjustments using UV light to fine-tune your vision will take place over a series of follow-up visits.

The Light Adjustable Lens™ implantation is generally pain-free. During the surgery, your eye will be numbed using topical anesthetic drops, ensuring a comfortable procedure. Some patients may experience mild discomfort after the procedure, but this is temporary.

The number of adjustments depends on your individual vision needs. Most patients typically require one or two UV light treatments to achieve optimal vision. During your follow-up visits, Dr. Hu will assess your vision and determine if additional adjustments are necessary.

Unlike traditional IOLs, the Light Adjustable Lens™ offers the unique advantage of post-surgical adjustments. This allows for more precise vision correction, especially for patients who may have complex refractive errors such as astigmatism or presbyopia. Traditional lenses are fixed after implantation, while the LAL can be modified to achieve the best possible outcome for your individual vision needs.

The Light Adjustable Lens™ is designed for long-term use and can last for many years. The lens material is durable and resistant to degradation over time. With proper care and regular follow-up visits, the LAL will provide clear, stable vision well into your later years.
